Took these in May 2009 in Santa Barbara, California. I’m n0t good at identifying flowers, but I’ll take a guess.

These are the cards, made with Stampin Up products that I made at my cousin’s house on Saturday.

These are the cards that I made the next day:

Dora Saves the Prince! Yes, Dora (the girl) saves the prince (the boy).

This is one of my favorite books to read to my daughter. I’m a single mom a nd I want to teach her that women can do anything they want to do. The fact that the prince needs Dora’s help and she saves him is a perfect example. I want her to live in a world where we are all equals!

Being a single divorced mom, I sometimes get lost in the can of worms that is raising children with parents in two different households. Dealing with an ex is not easy.  What is easy is to be consumed by wallowing, mommy guilt and the politics and stress of the relationship. So I feel I need a reality check:

1. I am JUST AS CAPABLE of taking care of my children as a married woman is. I don’t need a man to ‘help’ me and if I stay a single mom forever I’ll do just fine.

2. My children will not be forever damaged because of our divorce. (Yes, it’s possible to have happy well-adjusted children in this situation!)

3. I live with my parents because it’s good to have support and a financially and logistically sound decision, not because I’m lazy or helpless.

4. I’m going back to school which, yes, adds stress and financial worries, but will provide a better life for us and I refuse to apologize for it.

5. I have EVERY right to be as involved in my kids lives, activities and schooling as my ex does, I will stand up for that right and he will not take it away from me.

6. I’m not like all the other moms at school and I don’t do things like my ex does them. That doesn’t make me a bad mom and I refuse to apologize for it.

7. I don’t drive because I can’t afford it, not because I’m lazy or don’t want to.

8. As a women I will earn less, have to work harder, be less successful and get less respect in the workplace because society keeps it that way and it’s NOT MY FAULT.

9. I’m and GOOD MOM and a good person!

10. My kids LOVE me!

That was therapuetic.

I am likely going to Vegas again in December (for the 5th time)!! Woohoo! My mom, her friend, the friend’s sister and I will be going just after Christmas and spending New Years there.

Speaking of travel, I’ve been reading a few books that take place in Ireland, specifically County Galway and County Clare on the west coast and I’ve decided that I have to go there.

These counties seem like they have loads of history, most of it about hard times, famine and conflict. It all sounds fascinating.

I am LOVING this book!! I sat outside on the deck for hours today reading it. It’s very hard to put down. She’s a UK author which I find are my favorite writers. The book is about a woman named Bobbie who has an affair with a politician in England and then when all is found out, she flees to Ireland to become a housekeeper. It’s funny and brilliantly written. I love all the characters who are so well thought out and detailed.

Life is great when you find a good book!
